Top 5 Stock Image Websites

One of the hardest things to do when you are designing a website is find images. Whether you are building a Squarespace website for a client or trying to populate images for your own site., sometimes finding resources for stock images can be rough.

Where do you even begin? Is this photo copy write free? Will the photo be low qaulity?

As a designer, I face this challenge occasionally when a client doesn’t have photos to break up a text heavy site.

So here is an insider list of 5 websites I frequent for a variety of reasons. All these sites have are 100% Stock Image FREE.

This list is in no particular order:

  1. unsplash

What a gem, their library is extensive and you can search their library directly from Squarespace. When uploading a new photo, use Squarespace’s “Search for image” feature. It will pull images directly from Unsplash. They have high-resolution photos brought to you by a community of great photographers.

  2. magdeleine

If you are looking for “Moody“ or darker aesthetic images, try searching Mageleine. Their library is a bit more refined, but you can search by “color tag“ and it will bring up a collection of images with that particular color in mind.

  3. pexels

Pexels provides high quality and completely free stock photos licensed under the Pexels license. All photos are nicely tagged, searchable, and also easy to discover through our discover pages.

  4. picjumbo

Picjumbo is another great site for beautiful 100% free stock photos for websites and blogs. Their images are high-resolution royalty-free images without a watermark.

  5. pixabay

Literally, over 1 million + photos to choose from. Pixabay is great for photos, videos, illustrations, and vectors all in one place.

I hope this shortlist will serve as a great resource; now go and search out some great stock photos!
